At the developer panel at Final Fantasy XI Fan Festival, a lot of changes were disclosed for all the jobs. Here are all the changes being considered or already set for implementation.

* Looking for ways to distribute frontline tanking abilities.

Monk

Currently considering the use of kick attacks as a weapon skill or slow attack.

White Mage

* New ability: Repose - Save their parties with a sleep spell.
* Especially useful with a Scholar support job.
* Adding new teleport spells in the future.

* New spells involving transportation.

Red Mage

* Adding magic to move red mage to the front lines.

Thief

* New Job Ability: Accomplice - Steal half of a party member's current emnity.

There was no 3rd job announced. I wonder what the new rdm spells are going to be.

some of the stuff seems interesting, but i love how they just continue to fuck with summoners... like they ever use elementals past skilling summoning magic.

Not dud, Paladins block between 50-70% of attacks (these days) headed in their direction, and cut about that much damage as well. If the damage counts towards enmity then wow.

Of course on hnm crap it's all nin sub, so blocking isn't as central. Still, it could be cool.

Yarr Scholar has the white book and the black book, they can change to either one at any time. Each book has 4 abilities:
One cuts casting time in half, one increases potency, one doubles cast time and triples mp cost but makes the spell AOE (great for ref/haste/etc...Raise3?), and I can't remember the 4th atm. Also, unlike normal JA that cool down and then just sit at 0:00 waiting to be used, Scholars can hold up to 4 charges of each JA. lol

Long story short it should be an amazing sub for blm, rdm, and whm at least.

Its an interesting dynamic. Sounds like the job was built to be a sub while still holding ground on its own.

They changed it awhile back so that instead of having a small chance to block a full attack it's a large chance to block a percentage.

Plds had been upgraded on blocking alot more than before base on shield skill and gear that have add shield skill helps alot up to 50 to 70% of time, but whisp in your old days they didn't block that much and get no damage which it did sucked. PLDS had clome along way getting better in exp fight but HNM is not so good still but kiting which we still do.

Anyhow this skill help alot in Raids as well for tanking for sure.

That would have come in handy soooo many times wiping at the end of dynamis raids. I bet that stuff doesn't happen as much anymore since everybody knows how to rape the game these days.

That's funny, because just a few days ago I was passing through Jeuno and as I went to the ru'lude mog house, I passed over a pile of dead dynamis raiders. It reminded me of 2004 lol.

---

I have really high hopes for scholar, it seems GREAT for anyone who likes playing mage jobs. I love rdm, and one main thing I like about it is being fully independent of the rest of the pt, but I also enjoy main healing on it. I think scholar might end up being a really good healer (of course, Dancer is billed as a healer too). The 2 jobs both sound very fun to me.

I'm not very fond of main healing on rdm, but if it gets invites over scholar or dancer, it might look more appealing.

Lol Whisp, that made me laugh. Yeah PLDs have been majorly beefed since those 2003 days. The shield update was great.

Oi, oi, Panther, I don't know what you're talking about PLDs not being so great on HNMs - I'll chalk it up to you being tipsy at the time of posting. :-P

I'm curious to see what the new BRD songs are, hopefully something useful. Those merit songs are just for pretty effects, people still want their ballads and marches when tanking.

Original blocking system was in place when I started, hence my saying "these days" in earlier post

Remember when they said before ToAU they wanted to bring blm's back to regular parties and quite the opposite occured.

But I like Snarl! ROAR!

They still need to let pets skillchain.

I think there's some mistranlation. Like they wrote resist skillchain under blm. They must've meant lower the resist of magic burst on skillchains. Also there's no "Wait" command for BST. I think they meant "Stay" and that when you use "Stay" pet rests more HP.

And the idea to bring Rdm to frontlines... Isn't that called a Blu?

It would be nice is Summoner got an ability similar to Snarl.

Seeing as how those jobs work very differently, no.

They have many similarities, they both can debuff, buff, cure, sleep and do dot and damage.

Blu does have spells that do physical damage which makes them quite different from RDM in that respect.

Blu magical damage isn't as effective, but that might actually be a similarity considering the Rdm's C+ elemental skill.

Blu doesn't have as many cure spells and can't cure outside of party, but they do have a aoe cure spell, which rdm doesn't get without whm sub. Blu is also limited on buff spells and most are self-target only spells and can only be cast on other party member using Diffusion which has a 20 minute cool down which limits its effectiveness. However they have access to aoe stoneskin which rivals that of SMN.

One of the ways they work differently is most BLU spells have a short spell cast range forcing them to be on the front line.

Adding magic to move red mage to the front lines would make it more similar to BLU.

blm aren't popular? when i played, blm was way easier than whm or bard at getting a job. probably the easiest job in the game to get a party. when NA started reaching level 75, majority of them were black mages. also black mage were the biggest damage dealers in the whole game. is it not like that now?
