Yeah Abyssea is a place where Prom was successfully revived in the CoP expac. Since his death at the beginning of time was one of the major factors in ushering in the beginning of life, his revival is causing all life to be reabsorbed into him.

Spoiler: show
In WotG we find out that (totally separate from abyssea) there are alternate threads of time. Certain important people forged pacts with the Dark Divinity, just like the shadow lord, so that they could live forever and continue to war against him, though the war was long lost. The war never ended and that's the real world. Altana realized she fucked up and should have intervened, so she created our time thread last Thursday and created circumstances under which the crystal war would be won. However, by making this happen the other time thread will never be. So the people from the true thread come to ours and try to mess everything up and make our time thread follow the path they've appointed. If we succeed, their world will never be. Kinda siding with them on this one. Also, you find out that in the real world your character forged a pact with the Dark Divinity and joined with the leaders of the bad guys, and I gotta say, it was a pretty wild cutscene when all this was revealed.

Of course if all that shit had happened nobody would have had to worry about Promathia coming back to life and absorbing all existence.

Actually, I'd kinda like to know the answer to this question, too.

For the most part, I kind of understand the northlands expedition storyline, RoZ and a bit of CoP. But I wouldn't mind reading through all of it again.

Seeing as though I still haven't been able to play. I too would be very interested in reading the story.

There is a site somewhere that was updated up until the end of CoP I think with FFXI's story including a lot of the AF quests. Google gives me nothing, but I know it's out there. I think I have the link on my PC at home.

Like Cad said there's got to be something out there. I think BG used to have rapidshare collections of all the story cutscenes up to a point.

An unrelated but fun note, in abyssea you can buy temporary items using an abyssea currency called cruor, which drops from enemies and treasure chests. These items can only be used in abyssea. One such temporary item is called the primeval brew, which, among other things, boosts all your stats to 999, attack, defense, magic attack, magic defense to 999, grants 300/tick regen, 300/tick refresh, 50/tick regain (think regen for TP), 9999hp, 9999mp, and probably some unknown benefits. Lasts 3 minutes. It takes a lot of cruor to buy it but defeating the final boss (Wyrm God Promathia) grants you a key item that lets you buy it for quite a bit less.

Anyway generally people have been using this item on the Wyrm God fight to more easily farm the items obtainable from the battle. I used one the other day. It is fun. Non-stop 10k+ weapon skills. Total invincibility.

I think the site you are referring to was the History of Vana'diel.

http://users.neko-sentai.com/viena/history/

It has all the story till the end of CoP, and some sections on each nation, AF, Dynamis, and other notable quests. Fantastic site.

It goes down randomly and I worry it will die forever, I've been thinking of saving a backup.

Edit:
For more cool story/lore you can check out the old Vana'diel Tribunes.

http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/guide/ ... index.html

The first 17 issues are JP sadly, so we only get 18 on.

This person has every Chains of Promathia and Wings of the Goddess cutscene set up as playlists, so you can trigger the first video and the rest will play right through. Unfortunately no treasures of aht urhgan so you don't really get the information on Odin's origin.

Odin's importance in the overall scheme, and influence on the way the world turned out, was never explicitly stated until Wings of the Goddess. He was first introduced by name in the Treasures of Aht Urhgan as the legendary dark avenger of the Ephramadian empire and the tale of his battle with Alexander was told there. His existence was first hinted at in the cutscene after winning Dynamis-Xarcabard and again midway through Chains of Promathia as a nameless dark divinity.

Keep it installed and updated like a pro.

Also the install time is very much reduced if you have one of the collections.

I could go on for a while telling you about Odin's history.

CoP is uncapped now, hit 90 and solo all of it!

SWEET! I need to get 3 merits and I have the K seal to break 75 cap

Post subject:  Re: Level 90

Is there a quest to break every 5 lvls? Or just one to break 75?

seriously, uncapped CoP...

Post subject:  Re: Level 90

There is a quest every 5 levels, but they just involve trading in merits and a few seals. The final one is a game of rock, paper, scissors.

You can also save your macros to the server, which I do every time I switch between my Xbox and PC. And if its worth it to you, just get it through steam and update.
