i got to playing skyrim so much i didnt log in, and now that im done with skyrim ive been playing modern warfare 2 again, which is so full of hackers its a completely different game. i have been way too busy for ffxi lately anyway. maybe in april i might have time, due to school i dont have time til then :)

At this point if I were going to play FFXI, I'd just play FFXIV. They've resolved most of the issues and add new stuff constantly.

a few missions, not much to keep you busy unless your really behind (did you leave before jobs? thats a lot of content right there). as far as new nm, nothing roaming, its all instanced, but in like a week i think new imperial sh gonna be out

I might just dabble..., how are you guys all doing anyways? above Whisp said they're adding stuff constantly now, and if that's monthly i'd be a bit more intrigued to play.

I've gotta admit the main reason I stopped playing in the first place was just because I thought the billing was premature for the content, but from reading around it seems they've been busy since then.

We are all good, we do events pretty much every night - so we stay busy.

I was also skeptical about the billing and lack of content, but honestly it's been flowing in pretty nicely. Expecially if you haven't played since the update that added jobs and AF. It's a whole different game right now.

All of the current "end game" is indeed BC or instanced dungeon raids, but they are better and more challenging than darkhold and Ifrit.

There is also hamlet defense which is supposed to be fun.

Inns which are similar to your moghouse in FFXI except you get "rested" exp bonus logging out in there. It's like sleeping in a bed in skyrim or fallout, except you don't lpse the exp bonus over time. In fact you keep it until you use it. And you can continue to accrue more on top of it.

And a lot more quests since you haven't played in a while.

I'm one of the minority but I absolutely hate how all the good gear and battles in FFXIV are instanced. How boring.

I wish there were more diversity because some people actually like random encounters with rare and dangerous monsters with crazy loot. They're just ignoring the minority. There's ways to make it work without scrapping the whole system.

I wouldn't mind something that's a rare pop (maybe once a day or so) as long as it's not done the way FFXI did.

Some ways to make a "daily HNM pop" work without resorting to pop item farming:

- No rigid timers. Having HNMs pop on a rigid timer encourages groups of LS claim camping it each day. Instead of it popping exactly every 21-24 hours, make it respawn completely randomly anywhere between 6-48 hours or something.

- No intervals. Make it random so people can't make a habit of checking on intervals, afking and doing something else IRL otherwise, knowing there's no chance of missing it.

- Huge pop area. Make it spawn almost anywhere in the zone, so you can't just sit in a spot and wait for it. You either have to hunt these things down or stumble upon it by surprise. You're worried about nooblets running into it? I'm sure your average nooblet can figure out to stay away from the huge fucking dragon. If they don't, they deserve to home point. If nobody kills it for a day, make it move somewhere else so it's more visible.

- Drop rate. Don't make the drop rate fucking suck so linkshells have to literally camp it for years to ensure everyone in their LS gets the items they want. It's nice to make content last longer but there are way better ways of doing it.

- Decent items, not overpowered. Make it drop some sweet or unique stuff, sure, but don't make the stuff it drops completely better than everything else in the game and everything else added to the game for the next two years.

- Several of them. Just so that, if a linkshell wants to look for something to do, at least one of these guys is probably up somewhere if you want to go "hunting" for one. Try and make the loot caparable so one of them isn't completely disregarded for having the trash loot.


The fun needs to come from finding out that it's up, fighting it, and then getting loot to reward you, and not sitting at some camp versus 10 other linkshells trying to be the ones that claim it day in and day out for months for some 2% drop rate triple-hit sword.

At no point did I say I wanted it, just that it's possible to make it work and not be as messed up as FFXI was. I'm quite happy with the instanced content.

What I want SE to do is something about this "must have exactly 8 people, no more, no less" stuff.
