That's the best part about FFXI, though. I'm still on the fence about playing FF14 v2.0, but if the gear is swapped out every update (like WoW), then I'll probably be pretty sad and disinterested in continuing to play.

Rideres comment here, i wonder if he still feels the same. with patch 2.2 coming out and a whole new set of gear it makes me a bit sad that people will eventually end up being level 50 with level 95+ gear. seems like people dont have enough time to enjoy gear before new gear is already available.

i recently commented in game... if i could swap 1 thing with ff11 -> ff14 i would scrap the gear progression concept and use the more unique system they had in ff11.

there are a lot of things i'd swap from 11, but that's by far #1. i dont know if they took this idea from other MMOs but it's awful.

Gonna have to wait and see on that one. If the other aspects of the game are fun, then I won't mind too much on having to swap out gear, but the idea of being level 50 with iLvl 130 gear, or whatever, does seem pretty fucking retarded.

Its more like base stats and bonus stats i guess with xiv... in that lvl 50 = xyz stat and ilvl 90 weapon = abc stat... the issue being if you increase both then you get an exponential increase in capability....
