what i did for money early on (like lvl 10-50) was make multiple characters, plant them in different towns, and use the buy/mail/sell method to take advantage of the differences in prices. it would put several thousand gil in my pocket each day to spend on whatever. not sure if that is efficient anymore. getting a mule to jeuno is fun.

In the first week of release I sold a single beehive chip for 8K. My FFXI experience was all down hill from there.

GArdening is a easy way to get gil, you just plant em, give crystals or hey even dont give crystals if u want and check em every day, and u get stuff! it's awesome.
