Honestly I'd forgotten it was coming out until it was already Friday. And since I always order my games online I wouldn't see it til Tuesday at the earliest so I held off.

I've been mostly disinterested in my 3DS thanks to the less than stellar lineup. And while Ocarina of Time is supposed to rank among the greatest games of all time, it seems a bit silly that 3 months later the only "killer app" the 3DS has, despite some new 3d models and details here and there, is a port of an N64 game.

Gaming confession: I have never finished Ocarina of Time.

I'm guessing it was faulty or something, but the copy I had access to liked wiping save games randomly. I've played through the game three times, and each time my save somehow got wiped around the Gerudo Desert/Spirit Temple area of the game (reasonably close to the end I think). After the third time I pretty much swore off trying again, and I've never even bothered going back to it via Emulation or something.

Maybe this re-release might make me go back and try it again, but I dunno, is it worth the full price or should I just wait for it to drop a bit?

This game is the sole reason I wanted a 3DS. OoT is one of the greatest video games ever made, and the master quest (from the camecube port) adds a nice twist.

They did an amazing job at making the touchscreen useful. It's nice being able to equip items on the fly without having to open the menu. It will be very useful later in the game when you are changing suits and items frequently. Also adding the additional I and II buttons for items is nice. The controls feel natural on 3DS and the graphics have a nice improvement. Aiming by moving the 3DS seemed like a gimmick at first, but it's actually handy and fun. This is by far the best game for the 3DS so far. Everybody should go buy it NOW.

I loved Zelda 2 & Link to the Past but never could get into the N64 ones.

I may end up getting this game for sure right after I get new 3DS.

As an aside, I didn't realise just how terrible the frame rate on the N64 was until I saw this:

I want to see more side by side stuff. That was cool. I want to play more, but Im super sick today. I tried to play for a few minutes and almost lost my lunch. I also love the 2d mode with AA. Looks much nicer than the 3d. I do like watching cut scenes in 3d, but I just cant play in 3d. Its not that it gives me a head ache. I cant quite put my finger on it.

I like how the N64 was a bit darker. So if you turn the 3D affect off, does it make a huge difference in the graphics? The title looked a little jagged on the 3DS.

That was cool! I wanna see more side by side also! I can't play with the 3D on. It's neat, but it bothers my eyes. This game looks great with 3D off.

I couldn't tell which was old and which was new until the title screen said 3-D and even after that I still couldn't tell the difference. I thought the newer one looked slightly choppier at times. The grass looks better though.

I worry about some of you people's eyesights. Someone else told me they "couldn't tell the difference" between the two framerates when I showed them the video either. If you can't tell the difference between 10-15 frames per second and 30/60 frames per second you've got issues I'm afraid.

There probably won't be a lot of side-by-side videos. There's no way to capture video from a 3DS so unless Nintendo themselves release an in-game video we have no footage to sync a side by side comparison with.

As for 3D, i can see it just fine, and it doesn't give me headaches or anything. However I dislike that 1) It usually halves the game's framerate or otherwise reduces the graphics quality, and 2) I dislike that it only really works if your head is about 30-35cm away from the screen, but I prefer to play closer (around 20cm).

I can see the difference that N64 is Darker than 3DS

There is a very noticable difference in framerate, you can see the 64 image stutter when it's panning quickly. Also the 3Ds is brighter with more colors, and less blocky. How can you not tell the differece between those 2 videos? haha.

I played last night with 3D on. It's cool, but it gets weird when you move the DS for targetting. I think it looks better when it's off.

I find that you need to find the "Sweetspot" for the 3d to look just right. That "sweetspot" is impossible to keep when you are moving the system slightly to press the buttons. The 3d doesnt bug my eyes (Im a master at crossing my eyes. I can even move one eye in to the centre while the other eye looks directly forward. I can do that for hours with out it bugging me). I just find that trying to constantly re-adjust to the 3d effects from moving the system to be abother.

Nintendo was very smart to add a slider for 3d effects.

I dunno, I just noticed the clouds look choppy in the newer version and other than that I don't notice any kind of choppiness. It all seems pretty smooth. What are you guys seeing? Maybe the horse's tail looks smoother in the new version. The panning seems the same.

Ok, so I finally got this, no time to play it today though.

However for whatever reason I got two game boxes. I guess it's some kind of pre-order bonus (even though it wasn't a pre-order, I guess they just had some left). Though only one of the boxes contains the game, I guess I get to either put both on the shelf or choose just one of them or something?

I can choose between this box, which is gold rather than yellow: (Note, thats just a sticker, it comes off -- and all the "Nintendo" logos are printed on the packing you peel off, so the cover itself is clean -- Kinda nice to not have any age rating logos and stuff all over it)

Image

Normal Yellow box for comparison:

Or I can have the normal EU artwork which is:

Image

Also inside the gold box was a two-sided poster. Which one goes up on the wall, front or back? I'm leaning towards using the Hyrule side rather than the Ganon side.

Image

I gotta go back to work now so I won't have time to play or anything, but figured I'd put these out there for debate.

I like the gold box and the picture of Link riding Epona in the Hyrule field better.

Prepare to play the best DS game! I'm not very far, I just got the Master Sword and became adult Link. I'm having a blast playing this on DS and I look forward to playing the master quest.

The cartridge is actually white I think (I only put it in once). They should have made it gold!
