Steam Keys should be going out at 10AM PST/1PM EST/6PM GMT today. Anybody who pre-ordered this way back should get a beta key.

I'll be at home so if we can set up servers I'll try and get one going ASAP.

Cool my sugar daddy Krellis gave me a preorder for this, I'll keep an eye out for the key.

Totally forgot to preorder this. Oh well.

Just make sure you're not late for coil.

If it matters, you can still pre-order this here I believe: http://playstarbound.com/store/

This is sort of up but not quite yet. If you pre-ordered ages ago you should have an e-mail to a Humble Bundle key page where you downloaded your soundtrack.

Find that e-mail and click the link again, you'll be taken back to the Humble Bundle page and your Steam Key will be there.

Steam will accept and register the key, however it seems there's no download available yet, so it will link a random "Steam Sub" to your account. This is apparently normal, and you only need to restart Steam once the download is available.

EDIT: Sounds like it might not be for a few hours, probably fine by the time most of you guys get home though.

I forgot about this. Pretty excited. Just purchased a pre-order of the 15 dollar tier, 'cause I don't care about the other stuff. haha

I have a server running at 80.195.22.97, no pass (couldn't figure out how to set one).

Doesn't seem to be any login/logout message or any indication anybody else is playing though. You can add people to party by clicking the + under your profile pic and typing their name in though.

It might be a bit laggy, I dunno yet. It seems to be a bit more CPU intensive than Terraria was, so my lil dedicated box might be struggling with it.

EDIT: Apparently there's an update already so the server probably needs updating. Oh well, I'll fix it some time tomorrow.

Anybody else been playing Starbound? I've been playing on Kets server, it would be nice to get a group together.

I farted around with it a little so far, but I've still been a bit too distracted with ff14.

Im really digging this game so far. I've logged into Ket's sever, but I have no idea how multiplayer works. Are we on different worlds or instances?

The server is one big "universe"; you may be on different planets. The issue right now is that there's no way to tell if anybody else is online, short of saying Hi and hoping somebody responds, but if they are you can join a party (click the + under your name).

Once in a party you can click the "!" underneath their name to warp yourself to their spaceship. Once on their spaceship, use their teleporter to get down onto the planet their ship is above and you should now be on the same planet as the other person. From there, go exploring together, get on the same spaceship and travel to another planet and explore that one, etc.

I joined the server briefly, and I appeared near a well-built house. I assumed it was Ket's handywork, so I didn't touch anything. Now I'm curious if it was a nice house on some random planet.

I'm actually not sure if the server always gives new characters the same starting planet, it might. If it was mine, you beam down in the middle of the front garden (usually has a bunch of wheat) with a campfire, and the house is immediately to your right.

The game doesn't really bother telling you this for some reason, but if you want to go to another planet, just find some coal. You only need a few of them, then drop them into the little control panel right next to the captain's chair.

EDIT: There's word that the next update coming is going to be a complete balance overhaul, because right now weapon damage makes no sense, and armor is either enough to not get hurt at all or enough to get one-shot, complete jumble.

They're rebalancing it to be more simple and make more sense, but it means there's going to be a character wipe with the next update that drops in the next day or two. Don't know if this includes servers. So don't get too attached.

Yah, the initial starting out phase of the game seems a bit unforgiving. Looking 20% of your pixels after every death is also kind of tough. I'll probably hold off on playing until they balance it a bit. haha

Molten Core drops from the boss that you spawn when you use the Distress Beacon.

Note: It's level 9, don't spawn the thing with starting gear like Soul and I did.

Is there anything that tells you where you've been? I warped away from home base looking for random planets and couldn't figure out where it was. I set my home planet after that, but didn't do that sooner because I was in someone else's ship.

don't they have addresses or some such? and don't you get little dotted lines of where your ship traveled? I admittedly haven't played much but if you write that stuff down isn't it possible to return?

Right now you have to write coordinates down and enter them manually, but yes It's possible to revisit planets. Just make sure you write down the planet name, as there can be many planets in a system.

I'm pretty sure the devs will add a 'space log' to save coordinates in the future.

I just got enough coal to fill up my tank. I traveled to a huge planet in the same system as my home planet.

This game is really good, even in beta im totally hooked. This is a great game to have while we wait for 2.1

Sorry, at work, no can do for like another 7-8 hours.

Did the update force a character/universe wipe?

So I'm in the middle of updating the server box (which takes ages by itself, probably an hour or so) and I've read they're about to push out another update which will wipe everything again.

Considering the server data hasn't even finished copying yet I'm considering just cancelling it until tomorrow, considering they're gonna wipe it all again and I'll have to just do it all again.
