Blizzcon starts this weekend and of course there will be a lot of buzz about the December launch of Cataclysm. But the rumour mills are also saying that Blizzard will annouce details of their new Next-Gen MMO thats been in development since 2007. Not much is known so far other than: It won't be a World of Warcraft game It's a brand new IP (new story and lore) That it will be a Sci-Fi MMO It will target a larger audience Sources indicate that the game will be a MMOFPS with several social aspects offering the player two "sides"; the combat side and the social side. The games lead developer is Jeff Kaplan (Tigole) His previous role was Lead Game Designer (World Design) for World Of Warcraft until he moved to Blizzard's Next-Gen MMO's team in Feb 2009. Interesting to note that Jeff was hired by Blizzard because of his status as Tigole, Guild Leader for the Legacy Of Steel guild on the Nameless Server of Everquest. The guild had many world-first raid kills and is attributed to helping shape Everquest and the MMO genre in general towards extreme emphasis on endgame content. The guild was formerly run by Rob Pardo who is now Executive Vice President of game design at Blizzard Entertainment. Previously he was Lead Game Designer of World Of Warcraft. It will be interesting to see what these guys will come out with. |
