I asked you if you were looking to water cool it or air cool it, and you haven't responded, maybe you need to read my whole reply before thinking I’m just criticizing you. It increases your clockspeed and it's only done by the upper echelon of tools

To put it simply, using a processor as an example. Intel puts a limit on a processor. Lets say 2.4 ghz this is the speed they've set and tested to work efficiently with normal stock cooling methods. Now just because its set at that limit, doesn't necessarily mean it stuck there. Its possible to over clock a 2.4ghz processor to 3-4ghz but you need serious cooling products to do that.

I've even heard of normal 2.4 ghz intel processors being overclocked to 30 ghz. Thats using extreme cooling solutions. At 30ghz with no cooling expect to burn hole in the house all the way to the basement

but why do you need to overclock, is there something intensive running on your pc that needs overclocking in order to run?

i still got northbridge, southbride, ram and hdd's kioto


some people overclock so they can get a faster piece of equipment without paying the extra money. some do it to push the limits of their ability. some do it to say they are the best

Most do it to achieve better performance with their software such as games, video/image rendering, file compression/decompression. Windows Vista also works a lot better with a fast processor & ram, specially if you have a habit of installing lots of programs/plugins/codecs. I personally OC my hardware to get better performance in games such as Crysis, COD4, Eve (usually running 2 windows), Source games as well.

As far as the cooler you got Masterg, i would have gone with a cooler i helped my friend install last month, Thermalright HR-3 Plus or HR-3 Rev. A. I noticed 2 things wrong with that cooler though, first it's pretty big, if you don't have a decent size case, you'll be in trouble. Second thing is that it might ruin a SLi setup because it's so big, VANTEC TD9238H 92mm fan was used to push air and it worked like a beauty. Let me know if you want some advice with the rest.
