i love the size and price, ive seen the atom results which are nice and comes with alot of software out of the box, only questions are do you think the harddrive and ram are upgradeable on this?and do you think the 945GSE integrated graphics could support ffxi?

ugh...

yea it would run it, especially since ff is more processor dependent. Most integrated graphics chipsets work with ff.

Thats not saying much though, a standard piece of wood could probably run ff just as well. I would reconsidering buying this just to play ff on it though. Considering this thing 9 to 10 inches long a standard 6 ft man would look pretty ridiculous running around with that. Let alone the extremely small screen.

I don't know too much about notebook hardware but to answer your questions i did a little research and yes you can upgrade both, i don't know by how much of memory you can upgrade but you need to basically tear it apart before you can reach the memory and SSD. Now i've opened up laptops many times to clean dust from fans and so forth and it's a pain in the ass but very duable, just takes some time and patience. It's not actually a hard drive but an SSD afaik but you can mod it to fit/work with a hard drive, and if you're doing a memory upgrade you might as well change the drive in the bloody process. Pick a good SSD drive and good memory so you won't have any issues.

Tutorials:
Memory upgrade
SSD/Memory upgrade

As far as ffxi goes you should be able to run ffxi on a clean laptop, but the graphic resolution/quality may very quite a bit, i'm pretty sure that you'll be able to play it on low'ish setting. that laptop is also a pretty good deal. I hope this helps.

different speeds. most are wireless b/g and shit to make sure every piece of hardware works with it. Its just varying speed standards that have improved over the years. Wireless N would be the newer type.

3G is a cellphone technology and does not require a wifi hotspot, meaning you could have internet while riding a bus/car without being connected to a router.

edit:

Wikipedia wrote:
Unlike IEEE 802.11 (common names Wi-Fi or WLAN) networks, 3G networks are wide area cellular telephone networks which evolved to incorporate high-speed internet access and video telephony. IEEE 802.11 networks are short range, high-bandwidth networks primarily developed for data.

Mind posting a CPU-Z profile instead?

You have to consider that on a laptop its most probable that they have a C1E setting or the likes to increase battery life and so forth. It's probable that with higher processor activity the multiplier and voltage goes back to normal. Keep in mind that you may not be able to shut it off. I haven't read anything this is just my guess on it, i could be wrong. Also the A230 is a single core cpu with HT technology, not a dual core cpu, but you already knew that.

It is 1.6Ghz due to power steping that help to save battery power when system idle, Then when system is in demand then cpu will kick in high gear to 1.6Ghz.

My laptop has that setup on intel 2Ghz with stepping down to 798Mhz to save power.

That is called Hyper-Threading Technology or HTT, you can learn more here. It has only one core, but 2 logical processors which means that multi-core-capable apps can be a little faster, HTT has been around for quite some time. Notice what's being shown at the bottom of that CPU-Z window on the right side.

The speed fluctuates to save power btw, idle = low multiplier = low core speed.
