Ok ladies, this is where you can complain about things that are broken (if anything) while I get things sorted.

The forum. Just finished upgrading it to phpBB3 like 3 minutes ago.

So far I've spotted that the [spoiler] tag no longer works.

Going to be working on getting the place looking as much like the old board as possible.

By the way, new member registrations are still disabled right now until I'm certain we're good to go.

Also, hmm, where did the quick reply thing go...

You gotta start by telling me how you got it to upgrade to PHPBB3

It was the bot accounts fucking it up.

From what I can tell, somehow they'd gotten multiple accounts to have the same username and it was screwing the conversion process. I wasn't going to delete them until after the convert but I had to do it first instead.

Trimmed us down from 35,000 users to 1,000.

Changed stuff:

  • I had to upload phpmyadmin to the FTP so I could get at the DB. If anyone ever finds it it still needs a password to get in.
  • Made an SQL to delete every user with an activation key, 0 posts, and no "last visit" time.
  • Did the conversion process. Took about 30-40 minutes to convert 170,000+ posts and 30,000+ PMs.
  • Changed the config.php on the original forum to force a redirect to this one.
  • Uploaded "yarrsilver" theme to replace the subsilver/prosilver themes. Just my quick hack at the subsilver theme to make it look like the old board.
  • I had to replace all the "rank" settings (specifally who got what image) because they were screwed up. Minor thing, but some people might have different things above their names now.
  • I tried to rebuild the search index and it blew the site up. Hit the maximum limit of 75,000 queries per hour. So search is probably broken right now, not sure what to do about this one.
  • Since the conversion was so clean, I havent deleted any of the old boards, just moved them into archive instead.
  • I made a board in the private section to co-ordinate stuff like who's screwing with what. People won't have to listen to all the techie talk anymore if they don't want to.

Since then I just did a few tweaks to font and html spacing wherever I saw anything that looked out of place.

I'll add more if I remember anything else.

Upgraded to 3.0.8 and quick reply is now back in action.

(Or so this post of mine is going to test...)

Holy large font, batman.

Only two complaints so far:

1. This large text size is horrible. I didn't immediately find a way to adjust that in my profile settings, but I could be overlooking something.

2. Anyway to prevent the crap that happens with Madi's avatar? It's a lack of spaces thing in the location.

Edit: I, too, am sad about the lack of admin access! I'm totally taking the credit for getting the ball rolling on this project through one of my many long-winded posts about increasing our web presence, btw. Even if ultimately Ket did all the work :P

It wasn't from a lack of desire on my part!

Large font? It looks exactly the same as it did on the old board to me.

I believe the new CSS uses "em" to do font sizes instead of "px" -- so your fonts will be influenced by your browsers font size setting.

EDIT: As for Madi's thing, I've forgotten the CSS to fix that off the top of my head. Pretty sure you can make stuff just trail off out of the box (but not visible) if it's unable to wrap?

I used Firefox. I imagine you tested in IE. Hope I don't have to change my global browser settings for all sites to make the font smaller in one. lol.

Give me a few minutes, I'll see if I can just change their CSS to use "px" instead. Hopefully they dont have size declarations all over the place.

And oh yeah, i'll make it wider, gimme a minute.

Browsers don't usually re-download CSS (style) files on their own. Try holding CTRL when you hit F5 (usually forces browsers to redownload everything).
