With the overhaul of FFXIV coming closer to release, and a ton of beta invites going out, I thought I'd check out the ol' Dojo. I pretty much skipped all of the original release of FFXIV, but I'm pretty excited for ARR and picking up a decent MMO that isn't a straight WoW clone.

For those I haven't played with in nearly 10 years, how many are still around? Forums seem pretty active!

I'm in the beta, I've just been floating along, trying out different classes and races... trying to see what I like. Haha. I spent most of WoW as a healer, so I'm not sure if I want to go back to DD or maybe go tank. From what I hear, marauder tanking is interesting.

Sup rein... having not played 1.0 I can say FFXIV is a serviceable MMO. Its not redefining the genre or anything, but what it does it does well. IMO it has a small bits of a lot of flavors so you can do different things if you have ADD. But if you ONLY like questing or dungeons or w/e that one experience may not be completely satisfying.

Basically each bit of the game ( dungeons levee, questing etc) is kinda bite-sized and designed not to take too long, and generally with limits to prevent 1 playstyle being played to the exclusion of all else. I.e. Guild Heists or w/e are great xp the first time you do them but grinding them is probably slower than guild leevees... but guild leevee have a limited allotment, and quests are fast and fun but not repeatable... so on and so forth. basically you gotta do a little bit of everything to progress efficiently... in my experience anyway.

Anyway I find it reasonably fun, and my time with the beta convinced me to buy it on release... and it certainly is pretty. And at least for me a big selling point is the opportunity to hang out with old time CKD folks ( and I guess the new people will probably turn out to be okay).

Any of you guys know if it is possible to resize elements of the HUD? (Like changing the scale?)

Hi, Rein! Let's wear Subligar together and go hunt crabs, like we did back as baby adventurers in FF11. haha

Tooyoo... You can't resize the elements themselves (yet). You can make your resolution as large as possible, so that those elements take up less space, though. That's how I had to do it. Hopefully we can resize things individually later on.

I think we are too. We were one of the top 5 linkshells for the first year (including JPs). Then people started forming special event linkshells like for hamlet or crafting etc, and those got rated higher. But they weren't anyone's main linkshell. Most of the people in those linkshells had like 10 different affiliations. Now that we all have to pick one and only one free company, it is going to break up a lot of those top 50 groups.

I refuse to call it a guild because the only thing that reminds me of is the lollypop guild.

Actually we're going to be decently sized, if everybody comes back.

Even in just Phase 3 beta we had something crazy like 50-60+ members signed up into the company. You can now "check" people's companies for information about them, and lots of others I saw that I knew to be decently sized from 1.0 were only around the 30 mark.

The difference is most likely that our list probably contains a lot of "casuals", but that still makes us quite large. Sadly 2.0 Lodestone is down now so I can't check exact numbers.

Eh...

You can take the CKD member out of the hardcore schedule, but you can't take the hardcore intuition/skill out of the CKD member. Supposing that the ARR beta hasn't been a bunch of smoke and mirrors so far, and there will be lots to do once things go "live", I expect we'll see a lot of activity from people.

Camping kings for 3 hours every night? Probably not. But dominating a big dungeon a few times a week, and lots of smaller full/light party stuff throughout the week... I don't see any problem with that.

I plan to play pretty casually myself, since I'm pretty sure my girlfriend would throw me out a window if I played like I did in college. Haha.

never ending supply of tips from reddit wrote:
You can right click a selected UI element in edit mode to hide it...for example hide the Inventory Grid and you can also CTRL+Home with a UI element selected in edit mode to cycle through various sizes (USEFUL MINIMAP!!!).
You can also hold SHIFT to snap to grid and CTRL to snap to nearby UI elements

Are you planning on joining us Tooyooo?
