I am really thinking Conjurer at this point, since I do love the magics! That being said, I still think a Lalafel with a spear is pretty cool. Depending on how the whole point system works (Or if there's some sort of respeccing option, like WoW's Talents), I'll probably mess around as a Conjurer and Lancer.

I'm still hoping for being able to multi-box, so that I can have a mage, physical and crafting person.

I'm inclined towards the Gladiator or Thaumaturge roles atm. We'll see how interesting the buff/debuffing mechanics are in this game and if its super lame gearing up as a tank etc.

Tank or Lancer, always.

I am going to try to make a thief class, but since I really don't know how anything works, I'm thinking starting as a marauder to get the skills, then moving on to archer to user daggers? Will have to mess with it.

It's not lame whisp haha. I just don't want to be the one doing it. Brd/Cor/Rdm are all fantastic jobs, I just found them all boring to play.

i think healer and support mage are funner than melee, for me
i hate the feeling of needing a cure and not being able to cure myself

Being able to heal myself is a must for me... but at the same time, I really like just blowing stuff up.

When I was starting FFXI I almost mained RDM but a friend convinced me to go BLM. After I left Valour in '06 I took RDM to 75. I got a kick out of it. Crippling a monster with a good paralyze or keeping a line of aggro asleep while everyone's refreshed and hasted is fun, RDM was constantly busy and though it was all repetition, it never got boring. Pretty much mained red mage in Salvage for two years and that never got old either. RDM also gave me the opportunity to run the Valkyrie team in Einherjar.

After playing up as BLM and PLD I got tired of playing with crap red mages, it was nice to be in control. Kind of the same reason I played Paladin after getting my ass kicked all the time as black mage. haha

I got used to it. It was funny developing from a noob blm to eventually being endgame tank and melee. You fight, you bleed, you suffer, you die. Taking dragoon up I realized if you're getting hit, all you can do is hit the thing so hard it dies before you do (or just super jump. lol) I felt bad for tanks partying with me because I knew they wouldn't understand my thought process just like I didn't understand it when I played blm and Pld.

Long story short: I'm with you. (but I'm playing tank or lancer first)

Tank. Good tank with a bad party still does ok. Good party with a bad tank sucks.

If I know I'm going to party regularly with someone that is a good tank, healer or backline dps.

I have a question. They allow you to choose a class thats.. idk.. botanist or miner or tailor or whatever...

Whats the point of choosing those first? o_O when you can change it.

Probably just to make a bunch of money off of people, since way more are going to be going for mage/warrior levels instead of harvesting/crafting levels.

At least that's my guess.

You can change as soon as you equip a different weapon. From what I've been reading, there are Guildleves strictly for crafting. As I understand it, you can craft for free, although it's not as efficient skill-wise as doing it outside of the leves. I can't say for certain though.
