Its on Kotaku...the early start is definately an extra incentive. I feel guilty for falling prey to it lol

Sadly, I don't think it will work. I'd give the benchmark a shot.

I hope the servers go online a day or two earlier than the 22nd. I ordered from GAME UK with express delivery and I sometimes get my games a day early instead of on release day with express.

Whisp, try the benchmark out, You need to get a score of about 1500 to be "playable", and 2500 or so seems "average", and people with recent PCs getting 3500-4000 or so.

I only have one machine that can run it right now, and ps3 release is sometime in 2011.

I want two other accounts, but my poor laptop can't handle the game :(

i applied for a new position at work, however, and if that pans out, I may be able to get a few more rigs.

Whisp, go get the latest and greatest version of directx, and you'll be able to run it.

that fixed that problem (i hadn't updated directx in 5 years either)

but now when i try to run the benchmark it crashes before it even starts.

Whisp,

I built an awesome computer in 2006. I bought a Dell xps m1530 laptop in 2008, 4gigs ram, gaming video card and all that. Totally eclipsed my 2006 rig.

Laptop scored 440 on the low res benchmark.

I know you're having trouble running, the benchmark, but from what you've said, I doubt it matters. Sadly, you're looking at either a whole new rig, or major money spent at newegg.com retrofitting your current one.

Lots of low scores on the ffxi gaming forums with this benchmark. It's going to be a very intensive game.

=\

My rig that scored 4400 low and 2600 high was $999 at bestbuy (no monitor). Not hugely expensive, but still a bit hefty.

I can post specs when I get home tonight if it helps people gauge hardware vs scores.

Ffxiv.zam.com has a thread dedicated to that already, too

Yeah it looks like you can just forget the scores, the benchmark seems to be kinda screwed up somehow, not using extra cores and generally making a mess at actually calculating your number.

Best thing to do is just watch the benchmark. Does it look playably smooth to you? Then you're probably fine. The final game will likely have detail settings too, like turning shadows and stuff off.

finally got it to work by updating the driver

low-res

it was all-black the whole time, is that what its supposed to be like? i never actually saw anything

i scored 736, load time was 64142ms, what does that mean?

Image

is that good? lol

No.

Half of what is required minimum. 1500+ to play on lowest settings. 2500 for standard settings. Increasing from there up to 8000.

You should have seen an entire game-rendered cut scene.

Sorry, whisp :(

looks like everyone needs to drop 1k+ on a new rig just to play this game.

Nah a new video card will fix most issues, an upgrade to like a 9800 would work.
