This is unofficially confirmed by some members of ZAM, so put as much faith in this post as you can, given the source, but...

They are reporting that if you pump a particular elemental attribute in your stats, if you then go out and fish/botany/mine, you are more likely to receive shards of that element.

Who knows if this is true. One person posted it, and then a few backed up the hypothesis. May be something worth testing, if some of you, like myself, have been hording the elemental skill points and not using them for anything.

I also do not buy into this. I have my stats spread even. So how would this affect me?

Humm... I did get a whole lot of Earth shards and I think my earth elemental attribute is a tid-bid higher than the rest... I thought it just had to do with the fact that I was logging/harvesting...

i dumped all my elemental points into water, and I still get the same allocation of crystals as I did with an even spread.

However, my water spell on conj did 150 more dmg than any other spell.

http://www.ff14news.com/serverstatus/ says the server is back up but I'm still getting the server error...

Congestion maybe?

Just for clarification, we are talking about crystals gathered when you either chop a tree, mine a node, or catch a fish.

We're not talking about getting Fire crystals, instead of Wind ones, from sheep, for instance.

If that makes any difference.

Is elemental affinity only based on stats or is this also determined somewhat by your day/month/god?

I might actually consider believing this. I dumped a bunch of points into wind. I fished for about an hour and got only wind shards. I know I've fished other shards up from fishing before. I might do some testing with moving my points around.
