Well, it might help if you make a PT search feature...

This makes me think hes even more out of touch with modern MMOs. Does he not know about the group generator in WOW? You can join a queue and the game will automatically make a ballanced group and then TELEPORT (with out any side effects or restrictions) you to the instance you selected.

wow that sounds awesome

Yoshi-P Seems to really have his vision set in place, let's hope he implements this shit fast. and fucking FINALLY he confirms PVP is coming, lol I was almost afraid that firing Tanaka killed PVP's chances in XIV.

"Hi, this is Producer/Director Yoshida.

In regards to the questions cropping up about what will be done to party content now that leves are being made for solo play, we are thinking about the below for the future of FFXIV.
(Keep in mind that these are just examples and we’ll be adding unique new features and upgrading them.)

Casual Party Content:

Behest
Public dungeons
Instanced dungeons
Variety of defense battles/Chocobo escort-related features
We are planning to make adjustments to behest to make it more of a completion-type battle. We plan on improving Behest in stages beyond its current form.

Party Content:

Hunting NMs
Beast tribe settlement battles
Instanced raid battles

End-game content:

Along with PvP, we are also envisioning a large-scale PvE, but since we are not really at the stage where we can release information, I’d appreciate it if you just take this as "They're gonna do it!!" for now.

For soloing as well, we are planning to increase the amount of content that can be enjoyed constantly while placing emphasis on quests and leves, being mindful to maintain a balance between the two.

In the future, I would like to keep on enhancing the experience point gains through quest completion and exp. parties in public fields. This is because at the very least, I feel this is "normal." However, I think the work will continue up to about 1.20 until the game reaches a point where I think the balance of ranking up methods is normal.

I wanted to mention this in the letter, but from patch 1.18 we will begin reforms to remove the current feeling that players are being bound to specific play styles. Travel-wise anima is a bit hard to touch on right now (as I've referenced in another thread), but we will be making edits to the return costs and surplus system in the same fashion. Especially in regards to the feeling that a loss will be incurred if you don't do leves every day, we are looking into implementing a type of ticket system that will let you store them up, and heading into 1.19 we will be starting the specification edits of this. (I will talk about the details of this in the letter following the release of patch 1.18.)

I deeply apologize for the current lack of content and focus on the core fixes, but we have solidified our plans, so please look forward to the future!"

Well you can probably completely ignore it's existence in XIV just like you could in XI, but for me PVP is what makes a game truly enjoyable. For some reason around many FF people (I never encounter this with any other MMO base) I hear alot of "I will enjoy the game less/I will quit this game etc. if PVP is added."

I never understood that lol, its like if I were to say "I fucking hate chocobos if they EVER add them I will quit!" or "I fucking hate raids they better not add those or I will enjoy this game so much less!"

Enjoying a game less or quitting it for an addition to the game that won't effect you boggles me lol. I guess maybe a fear that it'll seep into the PVE or force you into it somehow? But this is SE we are talking about, do you -honestly- expect PVP to be anything but an unbalanced unrewarded sidegame?

Edit: Anyways, after a mild Google search I could not find any MMO I've ever heard of that did not have PVP in it (IE all that I could find was a few of those kiddy baby free MMOs), except for Second Life (and of course XIV's current state). I think most of the FF fan base doesn't like PVP (alot have not played any MMO aside from XI and XIV) but they need to realize that they are not playing an SE RPG, they are playing an MMO. MMOs and PVP just go hand in hand tbh, and if you don't like it you can just stick to playing SE RPGs and not delve into MMOs (even though in many you can ignore PVP completely, even in games like WoW). Sorry for the rant, just slightly fumed after reading so many ignorant comments about PVP on the XIV forums, like people actually fear that Yoshi is going to add full on PK world PVP rotfl.

If you're on the official forums Madi, you just have to assume the lowest common denominator for every poster on there. Think Alla, but worse. A full PVP world wouldn't even fit in XIV since there are no factions that rival each other. I can't even remember if the cities had problems with each other like how in XI none of the citizens really liked people from other cities, or at least that's how the snotty Elvaan in San d'Oria were lol

i always thought that was what the purpose of companies was. To create factions amongst the players to rival against each other.

Whether or not that is what companies end up doing is irrelevant, there is absolutely no way SE would add open world PK PVP in their MMOs lol.

blurb from Yoshi:

Honestly, I think the amount of instanced dungeons and instanced raids are severely lacking in number. It's pretty much the same as taking the baton and running with it from an abnormal state of there being no quests at all. I'm not saying that I want you all to sympathize.

I believe it was necessary to have at least 4 instanced dungeons for leveling and about 3 raid dungeons for rank 50 players prepared at the time of launch. I think that in that case it would be natural that there would have been a choice of content depending on the player's needs, but currently that choice has not been made available to you all. However, as long as operation continues, taking the first steps toward change is necessary. While ideally we will be prepping the necessary numbers, compiling, and then implementing them, just as I have mentioned numerous times, the fact that it will take so long really sucks. I really want to hurry up and break through this state of nothing.

We will continue to implement raids and instanced dungeons from now on, so this is by no means the end. Raid dungeons are not the entire focus when it comes to upcoming content; I think it is just an all-inclusive term for something that should be present in numbers, so please don't think of the first installment of raid dungeons coming in 1.18 as simply a replacement for guildleves.

The reason why there are various limitations is due to the problems with instance occupation and content occupation. I have every intention of wanting to avoid making people wait in line for instances that are occupied by parties that do not meet the number of members or rank to be able to clear a dungeon.

Try playing it and if there are a lot of people saying they want to try the battles with smaller groups of people, it won't be too hard to ease up on dungeon-related requirements. I will be keeping an eye on everyone's comments and if necessary I will implement a mini-patch to ease up on the restrictions

see first page for some other info from him today :)

Its probably a translation thing, but this really sounds like shutting operations down is an option on the table. Although I agree. I kinda want to see this game get shut down and rebooted. They should have shut the servers down in December and put the game back into beta.

The hardest part is done... the game engine. Rebooting it with a better premise wouldn't be the end of the world, imo.

The argument to that is:

People who can join a raid get cool gear that people who can't join a raid are unable to obtain.

WOW has something good going for it in the sense that the gear obtained from PVE is good for PVE, not PVP, and gear obtained from PVP is good for PVP, not PVE. Rift also does this.

Letter from the Producer, XIII (07/08/2011)
Hello everyone! Yoshi-P here with another post for all you FFXIV-ers.

I apologize in advance for the brevity of this letter, but wanted to inform you all right away that we are planning to release patch 1.18 on July 21 (PST).

All that’s left is the balancing and debugging of the two instanced raids. (There’s no guarantee all future instances will fit the definition of “dungeon,” and it’d just be ridiculous and flat out wrong to call something that isn’t a dungeon a dungeon, right? But even a small party of people can raid a given location, dungeon or otherwise. Just sayin’.) But things are preeetty tight, so there may be a 1- or 2-day delay.

Sorry to all of you who are waiting, but we want to make sure the debugging is done right before releasing this content, so bear with us just a bit longer. That’s it for now. Time to get back to work!

See you soon!

This company has no idea how to set the expectation of their customers. You create a date and you stick too it. If the game has never been released then you get a little bit more wiggle room. This game is out and for the last 10 months we've been told the fixes are right around the courner.

Im getting really sick of chasing this carrot.

July 21st, when the last "major" patch was April 15th or so iirc. That's over 3 months of waiting for some content in a game that has none. They really dropped the ball here. I haven't touched the game in months personally due to nothing to do, i'm sure 80% of the playerbase they had are in the same boat.

They'd have been much better off if they could have just trickled SOME content into the game every few weeks while they were doing this, just to keep people playing and interested. Instead they've let people slip away and people are going to have to second guess whether they should bother coming back or not.

After forcing people to wait over 3 months (we didn't even have to wait that long for content when the earthquake disrupted things!) if this 1.18 patch isn't absolutely amazing, they'll have missed their chance to turn things around. I was pretty happy at first, I knew the game was broken, I trusted they could make it better, and I kind of still do. But this is taking way too long. In September this game will be 1 year old, and some of us will have been playing it longer due to beta, yet the game is only just slowly becoming "launch ready".

I can't imagine who the hell in the higher ups gave the command to release this game over 1 year early. I'm assuming it was an attempt to get a revenue stream coming in from MMO subscriptions. Well he totally blew that one didn't he, ended up costing the company a huge amount of money and player trust and didn't even get any subscriptions and possibly even won't now. I hope whoever it was gets fired.

Agreed!

I'm not really excited about this patch at all. Sure, running the one "end game" dungeon will be okay a few times. It'll work out one of two ways, however...

1.) The gear drop rate is pretty good, and you get your 1-2 pieces useful for your class (Probably being generous here) relatively easily, and then the dungeon gets boring.

2.) The drop rate is terribad, like faction nms, and after a few attempts at fruitless runs, it gets too boring.

I wish we could all move onto something else together.

Problem is, there's not really any other MMO that everyone is interested in playing. We all liked FF, so we were all playing FFXI, and then all banded back together all by ourselves for what was hopefully FFXI-2, because that was what we were all interested in.

It wasn't.

You're probably going to be hard pushed to find something everyone wants to play. I personally don't give much crap about MMOs in general, I was here for the FF.
