This is for people who played FFXI with a controller and play FFXIV with a controller.

CTR and ALT macros are set for L2 and R2 same as FFXI. I notice an annoying difference. In FFXI I remember the macro menu staying open until you select a macro. For example if I needed to “provoke”, I would push and release L2, the menu would open (and stay open), then I select my provoke macro. If provoke wasn’t ready, the menu would stay open and I could spam X (or whatever) over the macro until it casts. The menu would close after I’d “provoke”.

On FFXIV you have to hold L2 or R2 to keep the macro menu open. It was much better in FFXI when you only had to hit L2 or R2 once and you could cycle through your macros. Is anybody else annoyed by this? Is there a setting I can change to keep the macro menus open without having to hold L2 or R2? Sorry if I didn’t explain this well…but anybody who plays with controller should know what I mean.

No...FFXIV is stupid and wants you to rely on the action bar. I got annoyed by it until I made macros to fast equip each job, stack a slew of abilities, BR, and realize I didn't have much room left for the smaller 1 macro lined abilities like "Provoke."
