depends how you look at it.

basic linkshell controls wont be til 2.0.
Also coming in 2.0 will be free companies which will basically take over the place of an end game linkshell. You'll be able to be in as many linkshell as you like for social puposes, but can only join 1 and only 1 free company for end game stuff.
Free companies will have a ton of perks. You'll be able to decide and name ranks and what priviliges the ranks may have. you'll be able to design your own banner and place it on armor and such. you can gain a guild house that is expandible and in the overworld so other players may see. lodestone will have a subsite for your free company with built in DKP tracking. There will be quests specifically for free companies and currency similar to grand companies...

Basically free companies sounds more like guilds in other mmos with lots of perks. Linkshells are going to take a very far back seat...maybe a trunk.

Ket told me once that he suspects that the reason why linkshell management options cant be added prior to 2.0 is because the server stores your linkshell membership per character, instead of on the central database or something along those lines. so the server cant do any checks unless that character is actively logged in the way its designed now.

Spyder posted some stuff above, but I don't recall any mention on being able to do things like... say... remove Sophie Sonnenblume from the LS.
