I logged in yesterday, but where does that new helmet come from?

The chocobo mask comes from doing the chocobo caravan escorts. It can take a while.

You need to protect/deliver 1000 packs of cargo, and each run carries only 9 (if you do a perfect run). A run happens every 15 minutes, which is 4 per hour, or 36 packs of cargo per hour. 1000 / 36 = 27.7 hours of carvavan escorts to get the chocobo mask.

Not to put you off or anything. It's meant to be a long term goal, a couple a day or whatever.

The "armor" in the screenshot on the other hand, is a reward from new faction leves, and supposedly really good drop rate. You need 7-8 people to beat the first one however, then there's two solo faction leves.

SE needs to vastly improve their in-game grouping mechanisms. Right now I look at the game and think, "If I can't solo it, I won't bother."

Or "if I can't do it with 2-3 people I won't bother".

I would like to checkout the new faction leves. I've been at 1000 X 3 for a long time. I never do faction leves.

You need to log in and say no to fallout for that.

This is the one reason I like WoW. I can log into Warcraft and theres like a dozen things I can do solo that are worth my time. Even if its only 15 minutes worth of playing. FFXIV is a serious investment. I still like FFXIV a lot, but the quest system in WoW is much better.

althought the quests themselves are better in FFXIV.

I really prefer having solo things to do or small group things. Less grind fest or overly challenging things please.

Yah, I think I made the final decision to just not play. I was tempted to log in to get the Goobue mount, but I guess I won't be doing that. The optical drive on my laptop doesn't work, anyway, so it seems like it'd be a pain to get it installed.

I really want to play an MMO with you all, but I just can't bring myself to come back to this one. I know that 2.0 very well may be super awesome, but I just can't help but think that if I came back for it, I'd end up mad that I didn't spend the last few months doing all the grinding that you all have been doing, and I'd feel gimped and in a position where I'd have to cram to catch up.

Bleh.

thats not a valid reason...there's no reason to grind all the jobs out now. save them for 2.0

Not everybody just sat and grinded everything to 50. People did that because there was nothing better to do months ago, and because you can now take a job to 50 in like a week or two if you care to.

Most gear outside of Relic weapons is probably going to be obsolete not far into 2.0 in one way or another. I reckon they'll probably up the level cap around 2.0 launch or soon after just so the 1.0 people aren't already decked out compared to all the newcomers due to their past 12 months of playtime. This probably upsets the people who spent months farming Darklight armor, but that's just how MMOs go: eventually that stuff you spent months farming for will be worse than stuff you could just buy from the AH.

(For people that doubt the possibility of a level cap increase, it was written on the whiteboard behind Yoshi during their "live producer letter" video right after they revealed 2.0. It had "Lv 60" written over on the far right.)

And frankly, very few people in this ls really have any special gear or anything to show for their increased playtime. We never did get to grind out dungeons or primals or anything due to everyone quitting and leaving us without enough people to do so. The only thing we've all got done are the new storyline missions, which will all be gone in 2.0 anyway. So you'd hardly be "behind" by starting in 2.0.

And again, a broken CD drive shouldn't stop you installing anything. Just right click a dvd drive on another computer on the network, hit Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Advanced Sharing > Tick "Share This Drive" > Hit OK, pop the disk in, then goto your computer Network > Other Computer > D (or whatever letter) > Setup.exe. The game might take slightly longer to install but it's only another 3 minutes effort on your part.

The body gear in the pic is indeed soloable
