Yo,

So did anyone test out duty finder for the purpose of just grabbing an extra 1 or 2 people? Can you join the duty finder queue as a party? I think Kitty and I want to practice more of tanking/healing.

On that note, are there any general tanking tips for kitty and healing tips for me? I kinda got the F-key targetting for heals down. Seemed to be pretty simple for the baby dungeons, at least. More curious about hate/aggro stuff that tanks and healers need to focus on.

Perfect. Will have to figure it out/test it out. Thanks!

I did several of them with Krellis and Vuce, we just picked up a different random each time. It's very fast at snagging that last random also.

I absolutely love the system. Waiting around as team 7/8 is no more!

So does the party leader join it, and it sucks in the whole party, or does each member need to do something with the duty finder?

I've done it quite a bit with each job on the duty finder. By far the fastest was when I was tanking and Cor was healing... I would click to join a duty and immediately presented with the commence. I'm not sure if that'll continue during the next phase 3 test, I'd imagine people are getting tired of it by now, but tank/healer is still gonna get you the fastest time to start.

The party leader will select what to do. When all members are found a new box pops up and each member has to be on the job the signed up with before they can click commence. This means that if you are on BLM when the leader clicks to join a duty, that's the job you'll need to go as. You can change around to any job you want, craft, do w/e while it's searching for the other members.

I love how the party doesn't have to hover near the entrance to a dungeon too. Looking toward the future: I see us hanging out at our grand company compound and starting instanced fights and dungeons from there.

Even more motivation to make a really cool GC house!
(I picture a fraternity house in my head though)

I didn't try the duty finder yet, but it sounds really great. I love that it warps you from where ever you are and then places you back in that spot once done. So you can set it up, change to something like a miner and go out gathering while waiting for an invite, do your event, then pick up mining again as if nothing happened. Such a difference from the days of being terrified to step a foot outside of Jeuno..for days on end.

It will definitely be great for those 7/8 days. As a tank/whm combo, Krellis and I found parties stupid fast.

Unfortunately, looking for a random group to run instances probably won't turn out so well. Seeing plenty of horror stories on the forums.

random dungeon finder is always a hit or miss prospect if queueing alone. no matter the mmo. as a general rule assume randoms are about 50% the effectiveness of a competent guild mate =P Sometimes you'll be pleasantly surprised but more often than not you'll just get what you "expect"

as theyve said, it's easy to make a 3/4 party and then look for a 4th with duty finder.

i also tried solo duty finder, and had some success. on conjurer, it finds you something almost immediately every time. one time i got a party as a solo lancer, and we began haukke manor. after 30 seconds, the tank disconnected, and i was forced to tank the whole dungeon as lancer with just a conjurer and thaum as support. we basically never said a word to each other, but i'd put up the 1,2,3 enemy symbols, and they both slept the 2 and the 3 immediately. it was pretty awesome, very smooth, no close calls even on the mid bosses. fortunately a marauder showed up right as we were about to fight the witch, otherwise we prolly wouldve died to her. good times.

Yah, that is neat. And that makes me kinda happy. I'd much rather do things with the linkshell, but sometimes I don't want to inconvenience people

Are controllers supported in Beta yet? Too lazy to play on a kb/mouse again.

Yeah, the controlls are a lot different than 1.0, but i'm enjoying the new controller scheme. You'll get used to it quickly.

When you get proficient with the new controller layout, you can be as fast as somebody with a keyboard. Since you don't have to scroll through all the abilities like before. Now you can hotkey everything to buttons on the controller.
