It's been about a year since I played. It was fun then. The downside is they have you chase gear item level that becomes obsolete pretty quickly. The upside of that is you can stop playing for years, come back, and easily catch up.

Don't really have time right now, how long is that going on for? How is the game for more solo players? Or is it required to grind with a party?

Pretty certain it's over now. Free days appear sporadically I'll try to post next time I see one. The game is heavily driven through dungeon runs and single battle trials so the bulk of the action is always a party task. However, the game will match you with other players if you don't already have a group to go so its easy to get through things without knowing anyone ahead of time. But honestly if you come into the CKD free company all you really need to do is ask if someone will come do xyz with you. Most people are willing to help. I'm not certain why so many are shy about asking.

Anything below the current expansion you can turn the level sync off if you're a small premade group. So ifyou want to just blast through the quests to get the story done a high level person can plow through it for you in a few minutes. Or, if you're mr moneybags and super itchy you could buy a jump potion to make yourself automatically higher level and solo the same fashion.

All the gear is designed in such a way that it becomes easier to obtain soon as the next wave arrives so it's extremely quick to get yourself up to speed with the current player base.

Side quests are all of course solo. And the next expansion will have a solo only job, blue mage. However, you can't take it into any party content so you can't do the story with it but its just for funzees and dicking around really.
