The development and management teams continue to address the questions and concerns of the community in an ongoing FAQ. The topic addressed this time around is gear condition and damage.

Gear Condition and Damage

Q.

What happens when my gear suffers damage and the condition worsens?

A.

Certain gear stats, such as attack and defense (see chart below), will decrease as an item sustains damage and it's condition worsens, lessening the benefits it provides to the character equipping it.

Gear Condition-dependent Stats
Discipline of War & Magic Arms Attack, Potency
Discipline of the Land Tools Gathering, Output
Discipline of the Hand Tools Craftsmanship, Magic Craftsmanship
Armor & Accessories Defense, Magic Defense, Evasion, Resistances (eg. Slashing 3%, etc.)
Q.

What are the Gear Damage and Heavy Gear Damage statuses I sometimes see?

A.

These statuses reflect the current condition of one or more pieces of equipped gear. When an item's condition falls below 50%, a character will be afflicted with the Gear Damage status. Should further damage be sustained without repairing, the Heavy Gear Damage status will appear, indicating that an equipped item's condition has fallen below 20%. As with other statuses, the icons will appear in the upper portion of the screen. Currently, gear stats will decrease at a certain rate up until the Heavy Gear Damage status appears, after which point they will decline much more rapidly.

Q.

My arms always seem to get damaged so quickly. Why?

A.

There are currently changes planned that will balance the rate at which gear condition worsens. This will affect not only arms, but also tools, armor, and accessories.

I used to look forward to these "Ask The Devs" each Friday, back when they'd do things like detail what each of the crafting stats do. But lately it's been nothing more than completely obvious and/or "figured it all out ourselves by now" stuff.

Oh well, it's nice to get confirmation about what i've been saying for ages, "bonuses" on equipment (the stuff in green at the bottom, STR+1, Craftsmanship+2, etc) are not affected by gear damage, only the "base stats" are affected. This means that you can quite happily wear 0% durability crafting armor with no crafting penalty whatsoever (which I've been doing for months).

This should confirm that it also applies to Rings, etc. Since the "Accuracy" is a listed bonus instead of a base stat, you still get it even when it's broken.

At least it did mention that they are looking into changing how quickly our weapons wear. That would be nice.

maybe i'll stop using 4 silver nugs when my rings get to 70% every other day
i figured it affected hidden accuracy but i guess not
^ a useful ask-the-devs

ill just let my craft/mage gear and rings go to 0 then and only repair my weaps/tools/tank armor/DoL armor

heck i could even upgrade to electrum-based rings or something that i dont have to worry about repairing
