Just last night I was talking to Kio about the WoW zones being better because they have little towns and farms and things that act as quest hubs and somewhere other than the main cities to center your activities for the day around.

Put some NPC shops in these, and maybe a guild support NPC for one particlar guild, a chocobo NPC (eventually), and a repair NPC as well as a whole plethora of quests and scatter maybe 3-4 of them around each of the existing zones and you might improve things a whole lot.

Having to wait until mid-June for the next patch kind of sucks though. I understand it's a big patch, with this stuff, multiple raid dungeons, and the new battle system content, but the huge gap of nothing might ultimately be what drives people away.

EDIT:

(Look carefully at the Ul'dah one and you can see a Chocobo.)

Yeah I agree.

The one thing I did appreciate about WoW was that the zones were fleshed out to have buildings and structures all around, apart from the main cities. A little farm here, an abandoned building there, you kinda felt more like you were a real world populated by the characters of the game.

FF, maybe from its rpg roots, always seemed to be rural cities and nothing else. At least in an mmo setting that now feels awkward. Especially talk of small towns and carivans all going to nowhere cause they don't exist. The Hamlets were a start, but were DOA from the start by putting them out of the way and not opening any of the guilds within them.

Mid June?

God, they are totally just waiting for E3 so they can pump all the changes there and act like its a mini relaunch.

Square care so little for the hardcore crowed thats playing right now. Its hard to tell if they care at all. It seems like they only care about future customers when they "Fix" the game.
