Btw, in the dat-mining spree the other day, there was a potion found called Fantasia. All the dat-mined stuff has been taken down for now, but it's description was something like this:

Fantasia
Medicine / Unique / Untradeable

"It is said that anybody who drinks this potion before lying down for the evening will wake up a new man (or woman). Gives you one chance to re-design your character upon your next log in."

What does that mean? Well it means that the character redesign actually comes in the form of an item, that you don't HAVE to use. You could pocket it until later. It probably also means SE may plan to sell them for money down the line, but that's not confirmed yet. The important part is that you don't need to do the character redesign immediately if you're not ready for it.

If the majority of your character change is going to be the hairstyle, it might be better to pocket your Fantasia (the potion that lets you do it) and just wait til the day they add the "barber shop". Barber shop is going to let you change your hairstyle and color basically as often as you want, so why not pocket the potion until the day you maybe suddenly want a more radical change like a new race. May never happen, but why waste a one-shot item on something you can do without it.

Well Yoshi did say he was keen on the idea of adding vera and a reptilian race in the future. Something like this would be ideal to have around for that.

I haven't tweaked the actual build of my character, and I plan on staying the same race, so I've been focusing on making sure my character looks good in the various hair styles and colors. Sometimes a certain hair cut frames the character in a different way, and later on when we get more to choose from I don't want one I desire to look off. I've also been bugging anyone I can to decide between slight variations of hair color shades they probably can't even tell the difference of but still humor me lol.

Anyho, I hope this item is something they decide to make openly available for a real money fee. Maybe like $15-20 seems reasonable, limit the amount which can be bought. Perhaps only every 6 months from last use. I've been told WoW does this. I don't quite agree on Yoshi's stance of it being strange and environment breaking if your friends suddenly show up one day as a different race and gender altogether. For a character I'm paying a monthly fee to maintain their existence, I'd like the right to alter her appearance as I please so that I'm always happy with what I'm paying for. I sort of resented in XI that after years of building my character I became tired of her appearance and could do nothing about it. Because I could do nothing about it, it became something that irked me more than it should have, progressively worse.
Since you cannot really get a feel for what you like until you've tried it extensively, it's a bit unfair to lock someone into a commitment when all they've seen demonstrated about their choices is their character standing still or doing the same 3 emotes that don't actually have anything to do with your true actions inside the game.

(Sorry for the rambling. Character Creator is serious business)

Shit just got real.

I'm going to add scars and some facial hair, and make my hair more gray. I am going for the grizzled, ruffian look more than the fresh faced farm boy that I have now.

Well, if you think of it on an RP level, our characters are now at the very least five years older than when Bahamut was released. I'm using a longer hair style, and taking advantage of the makeup options which makes my character's old design look like she was maybe college age, and now she looks like an adult woman. It's kind of fun. I like the fact that she still looks the same as before, but appropriately older.
Course, I'm really imaginative and tend to over think these things haha.

lol i was thinking the same thing, how Kitty had long hair, now that she is a full time gladiator and soon to be PLD she would have cut her hair shorter and maybe have a scar on her face after the whole whole bahamut thing. I was looking at the shorter hair options and i might go with that and leave it with the red and black highlights. maybe brighten her eyes a smidge. so yeah i will probably be using that potion real quick :-" unless the barber shop can also change eye color. :dbanana:

I went all crazy with the creator and thought I was a Taru for awhile. I came to my senses and just finally put some effort into the Roe.

That's pretty clever Talisin. Like your galka Murph, the orange eyes really pair well with his skin tone. Sort of reminiscent of a lion.

Im not totally sure what I want to do. Part of me wants to do what Kio says and wait on it.

Another part of me wants to change Yarr so he looks old..... but I also wouldn't mind switching races just for kicks.

Well the good thing about having a job, and SE *probably* selling them for cash/crysta later on is: You can switch now for free, and just pay for it when its a pay service.

Yah, if this service does exist in the form of a potion, or whatever, I can't see any instance in which S-E wouldn't try to cash-in on people making changes. It'll be a purchasable service at some point.

Well, if they made a comment to that effect, and they stick by it, then good for them. I'm fine with my char, and I don't see any desire to change it later on.

That being said, when the board of directors has some meeting and goes, "How come we're not changing 20 bucks to let these people modify their characters?" We may see them sing a different tune.

For better, or for worse.

I say go for it SE. Charge 20 bucks like wow does and let people change. I don't really care myself, but enough people doing it means more money for FFXIV. It could lead to bigger content patches.

Oh yah... Started with changing servers, then it was changing faction, races, genders... Last I checked, you could buy special mounts, non-combat pets and such

Wow's kinda been on a slippery slope regarding cash shop. They started with Server transfers and the like for $ and justified saying it took real people to make that service happen. But now they sell mounts and pets as well... and while some of them are fundraisers/charity items not all of them are.

IMO the turnoff cash items that shitty games rely on are stuff like random item grab bags and limited duration XP/gold boosts. Some games sell costumes which is kinda... "eh" but when they sell costumes with limited durations or costumes with combat stats thats a problem imo.

WoW was fun to five box. And if FF14 ARR ends up being legit, I may take a stab at 4-boxing it for doing some solo light party stuff. It can be challenging and fun. And being able to maintain /follow through zone lines is a huge boon towards boxing.

If there ends up being world bosses, or world events, having an extra 3 accounts to provide some sort of support role could be fun, too.

But back on topic, I don't really mind the idea of paying for services that allow you to change your char's appearance, or whatever. I'm not too keen on tons of in-game items being for sale, however, even if they are cosmetic.
