Assuming any of you fuckers actually play anymore:

http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone ... 117b9d66e4

TL;DR:
  • New relic weapon questline, starts at Rowena is Idyllshire.
  • You can trade in a Zeta weapon to obtain items required for the new relic quest, essentially allowing you to skip some of it. You will lose your weapon if you do this.

(I believe in an older interview they stated that the weapon you trade in does not need to correspond to the new relic you are trying to obtain. This is to account for the three new jobs that do not have a 2.0 relic weapon.)
  • You can buy replicas of your old relic weapon at any stage (including Zeta) from the North Shroud for glamour purposes. You must have obtained a Zeta to do this. The replica has no stats, this isn't a replacement for your weapon.
  • New sidestory questline (e.g. Hildibrand, but something new) was added.
  • Though not elaborated, there are new drops for Alexander (Easy). It either now drops singular trade-in items instead of needing 2-4 tokens per armor piece... Or you're gonna be grinding out your relic here.

Relic quest line:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments ... _spoilers/

Spoiler: show
Step 0: Activate the quest line
As with the 2.0 relic quest, you have to do an initial quest to start the chain. This only needs to be done once. "An Unexpected Proposal" > Idyllshire 5,5 > Rowena. This then sends Gerolt and Ardashir to Azys Lla, where they'll be for you to actually do the quest chain.

Step 1: Get an umbral and astral nodule for the relic base
This requires you to meet a vendor named Syndony on the second floor of the House of Splendors in Revenant's Toll. She requires one of 2 things to give you the two nodules:
1) A fully completed zeta relic - THIS DESTROYS THE RELIC. You can now buy a replica of the zeta stage (North Shroud (X:30 Y:20) from the NPC Drake), which you should do before doing this
2) 18 luminous crystals - 3 from each of the new heavensward zones (atma grind v2)
Once you have these you can hand them into Ardashir to create the relic base.

Step 2: Awaken the relic base
You need to do the following dungeons (in order?) with the base relic weapon equipped:
Snowcloak
Sastasha (hard)
Qarn (hard)
Keeper of the Lake
The Wanderer's Palace (hard)
Amdapor Keep (hard)
Dusk Vigil
Sohm Al
The Aery
The Vault
There is no mention in the text as to whether you can unsync run the non heavensward dungeons. Confirmed that you can unsync the dungeons for these runs.

Step 3: Gather materials for the actual relic

The awakened relic is too weak for it's current weapon and needs a new one, which Gerolt can craft for you with 4 new items: enchanted rubber, fast-drying carboncoat, fast-acting Allagan catalyst, and divine water. You can get these from Cristiana at the House of Splendors in Mor Dhona.
She will barter the items in exchange for other items.
From the quest text itself:
The goods requested by Cristiana can be obtained through various means including dungeons, beast tribe quests, and crafting.
Speak with other players and share information to discover how to find them!

Once you have all 4, you can turn those into Gerolt to get the completed relic.

I wasn't expecting much out of this quest, and Yoshi didn't let me down.

Is the relic quest line something that will be interesting you folks this time around? I could see arguments for both sides.

Well I probably won't be seeing one from raiding anymore, so it'll be what I should be doing. But it's likely to be a hell of a lot of time to invest that I just no longer have. I've been incredibly busy with work.

I haven't done a lot so I can't say how it'll be once I get into the meat of it, but at least from the surface I'm pretty happy with the quest. The trickiest part will be that it seems you need an item from each specialist crafter, meaning that people will be taken advantage of gil wise. I don't think we have enough active crafters that are able to make the items to be completely self sufficient at the moment.
The token items can be achieved by just doing a lot of activities that most people commonly do on a daily basis anyway which is fine by me. It doesn't appear like we're being funneled into any one single activity to farm (unless you didn't turn in a Zeta). You do have to run some of the dungeons at least once, but you can do that over leveled and in a small group if you please so that's pretty painless.

I don't mind busy work as long as its something relatively simple to do and I know I get something out of it. For instance, I don't mind doing things such as collecting 99 logs, if I know i can just walk up to a node, click a button, and receive one and I just have to repeat that 98 more times. If RNG was a factor I would have been pretty pissed off.

From some of the rants I saw on the main forums, the final step takes currency from beast man quests. And given the daily caps, it was going to take several months to get enough.

Even though I can skip the new atma farming, I just can't support this crap any more. It's basically the entire zeta relic quest line condensed. Pass.

My sub is up in Jan. I don't plan on renewing.

I haven't had time to actually read through any of this nonsense yet really, but I got the impression that you needed lots of items that could all be obtained through various methods. So you could, in theory, get some from spending Law tomes, some from Poetics, some from doing beastmen dailies, some from crafting, some from doing an Alexander run or two a day, etc. Spread your playtime and content around over a longer period rather than picking one thing grinding out 800 alexander runs or something.

Reminded me a lot of Alexandrite that you could buy using farmed seals, or get from maps, or get one a day from expert roulette. If you only used one method it was going to take a while, but you could supplement it and make it varied and spread out for yourself.

Still, regardless of the method of obtaining shit: Now was really the wrong time to tell the player base that they have a shit fuck amount of grinding to do. Nobody is motivated because the last patch was pretty shitty, the current raid meta is fucked, and the 3.0 content dried up.

SE really should have just postponed the relic quest until 3.2. All that's happening is that people who were sitting on the fence waiting for content to do are now like "well this shit just ain't worth it no more".

The idea of literally throwing away something I spent hundreds of hours acquiring was already not sitting well with me, but then the NPC pulls this line on me:

FU SE. I was pretty attached to this weapon, now you're just making me feel bad.

All of the reasons you guys stated was why I stopped playing a while ago. It was just new ilvls replacing the old, (although, that is how MMO's go) it was hard to say if I was getting tired of MMO's or just FFXIV in general. Turns out it was FFXIV. It was not fun leveling or PUGing anything in this game but I do miss the sense of community like talking on mumble or in game.

Time to fire up a starbound server! Lots of updates to it. haha. I do miss talking with you all, but I think I have officially written off MMOs for now. Been diving into some playstation games and trying to platinum stuff. \:D/

Dust, how is that game? I've never really played any games of that genre before, but I saw Kitty and Fado play the Hyrule Warriors one, and it looked interesting. So I've been kind of tempted to try the dragon quest one.

well, in a nutshell, its mashup of Dynasty Warriors/ Dragon Quest / "Any Tower Defense".

It has a fairly decent storyline and diverse skill sets for each character.

You get to collect and summon the monsters you defeat during each level which is cool.

Here is areally good review. my kids and I play on the weekend for the weekend live bonus's to exp, items, etc.

Cool, thanks. I may take a look at it after the Christmas festivities are over.
