FINAL FANTASY XI: ONLINE MODEL SWAPPING GUIDE

[1: Introduction]
In FINAL FANTASY XI, when the server tells your computer to show a model,
say, a moogle in your mog house, the program tells the HD to find a certain .DAT file
containing the model for whatever entity is needed. Well, since all of the models use
the same format, you can swap the .DAT files to make your computer think that one model
is another. This change will only be visible on your computer alone. The great people
over at GameFAQs.com's forums have spent time to find which model is which, so that you
can swap as you want.
[2: How to do it]
To swap models, first make sure that your system restore works,
just in case something is deleted. Open up the game directory
(C:/Program Files/PlayOnline/SquareEnix/FINAL FANTASY XI/ by default)
in My Computer. Find the original model (for moogle, it is ROM/3/56)
and cut and past it to a separate, safe, directory elsewhere on your HD.
Take the model with which you want to swap it, and paste it in the same
folder as the original was and rename it to the original.
For Example:
If you want to swap the moogle for Cid, you would do the following:
Open ROM/3/
Cut 56.DAT
Paste it somewhere else on your drive (Location 1 going forward)
Copy 37.DAT
Paste it elsewhere on the drive (NOT location 1)
Rename it 56.DAT
Copy the renamed 56.DAT
Paste it in ROM/3/
Start FFXI:O
Enter your mog house
There will be Cid where your moogle was with “Moogle” above his head
[3: The swap files]
These are the files and their models. The first number is the directory,
the second is the .DAT file.
For Example: 3/44 = Cornelia means that /ROM/3/44.DAT is the model for Cornelia.
The first section (Marked ROM) is in FINAL FANTASY XI/ROM, the second section
(marked ROM2) is in FINAL FANTASY XI/ROM2.
