Conflags just take practice. I don’t normally stare at my character’s head during fights, so when it popped on me I had little time to react and always screwed up. Also I mixed up the 2 symbols pretty often. I would run to the center for fireball or run to the off tank with conflag and cause a wipe. For me it took repetition, screwing up time after time after time until I finally got it down. It was the same for Spy and several others in our group.

My first experience with conflags was with A-team when I stepped in for Ath one night. They were all proficient up to dreadknights. Everybody yelling at me at the same time because I had no idea wtf was going on. It's definately not something you learn in 1 night.

One thing that really helps is to have sound effects turned up louder than everything else. It won’t help 100% of the time, but you get familiar with the beeping sound that accompanies fireballs and conflags and you will know to look for it.

Like Ket said, it's all on a timer and you will eventually memorize it. Your whitemage will stoneskin everybody at the right times, and your scholar will toss up sacred soil to absorb fireballs. Your main tank will know when to run into the conflag to avoid divebomb/death sentance, etc. Eventually you will breeze through that part on autopilot when learning the other phases.

The fight is kinda frustrating and tedious because there are so many phases you have to get through, each of them with little room for error.

The good news is, conflags, divebombs, and snakes are the hardest parts of the fight to learn IMO. The final 2 phases don't take as long to absorb in comparison.

More good news, no more turn 5 lockout. So people from other coil groups can help you guys when you don't have a 8/8 party. I will help if you guys ever need a WHM or SCH and i'm online. I'm sure many others will do the same.

I'm late running in sometimes, but I haven't trapped half the party since we first started running coil.

This is why we put all the troubled children on twin's left side. We have our slow conflagers, our forget foe-ers, and our pitiable PS3ers.

Other than 1 time with Shriek + add I didn't mess up at all last night. I'm getting better. Don't bench me yet!
