Its not as much a problem with my computer as much as it is me being cheap about the cpu fan. This upgrade is already about 200 bucks over budget.
This upgrade has been awesome. Ive never had such a well timed upgrade. If I hadnt had to get a new power supply the price would have been awesome. Instead its just pretty awesome.

Yea I said previously that cooling is kind of key if you are running some of those gpus...but I probably didn't stress it enough.

I went overboard to keep everything cool to prolong the life of my computer as well as to try to future proof it a bit for any further upgrades.

Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler (I have a large case so it barely fits)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835608018

There are cheaper cpu coolers as well but I really stand behind noctua products even though the visual appeal of their fans seem strange. In a case it hardly matters as I'm more funtion over form.

here is another one...the feedback is great on it.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835608014

As far as fans go...

Noctua NF-B9-1600 92mm Case Fan (I'm running 5 of these bad boys...kind of went overboard)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835608005

During game-play I open them up full and I'm getting about 88-89 F (or 31-32 C). MY GPU fan still kicks on a bit but its not so bad with these fans in the case.

I also have this thing below to ease my use but I had someone install it and deal with the cord management since it is a pain in the ass to install but I find it useful as I switch from loud-fan gaming to "all I hear is the power supply" web-surf quiet.

NZXT Sentry LXE Touch Screen Fan Controller

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

Granted, I really invested in this stuff and probably went overboard in doing so. Since my computer is a big investment and I use it constantly (more than my own television) I chose to spend this kind of cash. However I am thinking at least a good cpu cooler other than the manufacturer one as well as about 3 fans on high settings (fan controller optional but useful for noise control) will help a lot in keeping things cool for ya.

I am sure it sucks because every time you turn around there is something new or cool or better that costs money...I had that same issue. But I will stress with 2 470s your comp will get pretty toasty so some good fans and perhaps even a cpu cooler are needed. Price and which ones are always the kicker.

An yea, it's gonna be great to see ya and play with ya online...but you already know that. :)

I got out of my ticket! Thats the 300 bucks I needed to afford the second video card! Im going to bench my computer a little then turn up the speed to 3.8ghz(from 3.4) and add the second card and bench it again.

Sweet! (Congratulations)!

Crank it up and post the results. I might start a new build soon, and this will motivate me even more

The SLI dissapointed me at first. It seems to slow some games up and speed others. At least FFXIV gets a good boost from the second video card, like 50% to fps.

Make sure you select one of the cards to be the physics processor, the auto setting makes physics processing switch from one card to another in mid-gaming.

Make sure you update the video driver at the lastest. There are some game that will use SLI and others that don't.

Well, I realized today that one of my SATA drives is SATA1 and not SATA2. I was trying to figure out why my PC booted so slow and why games still loadded slow. So im breaking the read and just booting off the SATA2 drive. Although I have to reload Win7. Not a big deal since Ive reloaded Windows 7 like 12 times on this PC.

12 times????? that too many. I would just take that desktop and dump it in nearest trash bin. lol

Anyhow if your computer reboot few time then stops, That is normal as window is trying different setting or drivers that work or does not.

I remember when I learn how to build desktop computer from my sister's husband that told me when computer reboots it doing what needs to be done. Then start adding other stuff that customers pays for. This was back in like 96. also I help him run cables for networks for business due to his bad back that he can't do crawl space to heavy liftings so I got paid 20 buck hrs that was best part.

Random follow up.

The Sandy Bridge is about to be recalled:

Quote:
A problem requiring a "silicon fix" is bad news in the chipset business, and sadly that's what Intel is announcing. Its new Intel 6 Series chipset, Cougar Point, has been found to have a flaw, something to do with the SATA controller. Intel is indicating that the ports can "degrade over time," leading to poor i/o performance down the road. All shipments have been stopped and a fix has been implemented for new deliveries, but it sounds like recalls will be starting soon for those with this ticking time bomb silicon within.

Btw I read up a little more on the flaw.

Supposedly any motherboard with a sandy bridge chip, regardless of brand (MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, etc) will eventually have SATA ports 2-5 cease to function, while SATA ports 0-1 are unaffected. If you never intend to use more than the first two SATA ports you probably don't have to care, but you should because according to an Intel rep, all SATA ports past the first 2 will eventually stop working.

However, Intel have also said they expect a 5% failure rate over 36 months. Which to me sounds like the boards are still likely to last 3-4 years at the least.

That said, might be worth arranging a replacement with the manufacturer while it's under warranty. The manufacturers most likely don't have new boards ready yet though. I've heard people quote March/April for fixed boards.

My upgrade is complete. My wife got me an Intel SATA III SSD. The 510 series 120gig model.

Just finished reloading Windows 7. Windows loads like a dream. This is by far the best ugprade Ive done.

I'm jealous. I've been contemplating SSDs lately, especially cuz Newegg keeps sending me emails about sales on them.
