i got this cool mouse in the mail today. it was around $50 something on Amazon. mad catz rat 5.

it's pretty comfortable, looks like a little race car, you can change the shape of it to fit your hand, and its software allows you to program macros to your mouse keys. so if i am crafting i could program a mouse button to hit enter, wait a few seconds, hit down down down enter, or whatever it takes to perform the action in the game.

oh and in case anyone asks yes that is my niece's face on my mousepad. it was a gift from my brother.

Nice I seen that in stores but I settled for a Razer Imperator and the Black Widow keyboard.

It looks like a transformer, don't the gaps in the plastic bother you?

Whisp, let me know how that thing works out for you. When I was looking at mice, I saw it, but I was kind of scared by it. haha. I'm curious to see how it works out :)

im very happy with it so far. you dont even feel the gaps. it feels like a normal mouse. you can decrease the gap completely if you have small hands.

its fun having a mouse that you look forward to using rather than just a dull mouse that you don't notice is even there. when i woke up this morning, the first thing i wanted to do was go program some commands on this mouse. right now im working on setting a profile just for my chess program. can't wait to fiddle around with FFXIV with this thing.

can't tell from the picture. how many macro buttons does that one have? I would like at least 4 for ctrl+ stuff that im doing right now in ffxiv.

here are the buttons it has
the usual left click
the usual right click
a vertical scroll wheel that can be scrolled or pressed
a forward button
a back button
a horizontal scroll wheel that can be programmed twice, once for scroll left once for scroll right
and another generic button whose default function is to slow your mouse speed for sniping in FPS (called precision aim button)

then you can also set up to 3 profiles. so i'll have one profile for FFXIV, one for chess, and another for who knows. right now i just set the generic button to offer a draw in chess. {d}{r}{a}{w}{enter key}. that really helps cause on my chess server if some guy does a 3-fold repetition you have to actually type out "draw," to get the draw and a lot of times i only have like 0.5 seconds left so i just can't do it. but now i can by just pushing a button! woo

funny thing though you have to program the horizontal scroll wheel to scroll horizontally. it doesn't do so by default. but its not that hard. i entered {Scroll lock}{Left}{Scroll Lock} to scroll left and it works just fine in Excel.

my FFXIV profile will probably remove the forward button, back button, horizontal scroll left, horizontal scroll right, and precision aim. so i will have 5 macros for FFXIV. not sure what they'll be yet. probably one for crafting repetitious stuff. any other suggestions?

I think what sold me was the pinky drag add on lol I like the fact that theres a little wing you can add to it so my pink wont drag anymore. I did get the R.A.T 7 since it was only 17 dollars more.

Now you all got me feeling like a luddite - with my pinky dragging on the mouse pad, like some sort of a savage.

yah totally. pink drag can be the difference between loosing a mob or getting a mob!

but in all seriousness, I really like all the adjustments that you can make on it. It was either this one or the Naga Hex. from what ridere told me, they have about the same amount of programmable buttons.

And maybe you won't accidentally hit the 1 or 2 buttons as much as I do on my mouse. It hasn't caused disaster, but if I blew some major cool down ability by accidentally pressing those buttons, I'd be said. Of course I'd never map a one-off "emergency" command to the mouse. Pressing those little buttons for Cure 1 and Cure 2 spam is nice, though :)

got the mouse today.

the software is ok. profiles loaded are not mode specific. so if you load a minecraft profile they provide you with, it overrides all modes. you have to manually do each mode specifically.
no mouse scroll assigment for left or right. so i have to use left and right key which don't work on all software. (left and right mouse scroll keys are copyrighted and cyborg didnt pay for the rights  )

so far the feel of the mouse is nice, ill see how it feel after an hour or so of gaming. I made some adjustments and replaced a few items. this version is 6400 dpi version but it didnt come with a metal box for all the accessories which is a bit disappointing. their ffxiv profile is probably outdated too haha. ok thats all for now.

they where in the madcatz website, you can download a bunch of MMO profiles. but becareful when you load one of the profiles it overrides all your modes not just one.

I have used G-series Logitech mice/keyboards for years, and the software for their macro buttons has always, even since the very early days, had a feature where it automatically swaps profiles when you load each game. I'm quite surprised if a brand new all-singing-all-dancing thing couldn't do the same. I'd have a look around the documentation or online or something.
