In case anyone isn't upto speed on this news this past week -- breach detected last week (November 24/25)
100 TB of data extracted (that hella lot of data)

Budgets, layoffs, HR scripts, 3800 SSNs leaked online.

Sony Pictures shutdown the company for 2 days, ordering staff to essentially stay offline and work from home where possible.

FBI and Mandiant (Security consulting services, likely their incident response team) were called in to investigates.

Appears destructive malware was used to tamper and destroy data as FBI issued out a malware warning alert to businesses. Malware makes machines inoperable by overwriting the drive and MBR.

There should be stricter laws allowing people to keep their SSNs private. There's no legit reason to have to provide it other than for government services, and they tend to be retained and used far too casually for anything else.
