I was curious if anyone else was into the books and HBO TV series for Game of Thrones? I had been sitting on the first book since 1998 with it's original paperback cover that looked like it came out of the romance novel section of Barnes & Noble, and I finally got around to reading it a few years ago. I'm glad I didn't start reading the series when it first came out because the wait between books is agonizing.

The HBO series has been great in getting me to like and enjoy characters who's point of view chapters I tended to speed read through too.

Anyway, any fans?

Kitty and I watch the show pretty religiously. I got the first season through less-than-legit means, and I marathonned it in a single day. I made Kitty watch one episode, and I think we then marathonned it again, so he could watch.

We liked it so much, he ended up paying for HBO, so we could watch it legitly for the next season (As well as buying it on BluRay) haha.

I used to do more reading back when I had a job with a lot of down time. But I've never been one to read at home, because I rather engage my mind in other ways (damn games :P). But if I ever found myself in a position where I was going to read for pleasure again, these books would definitely be at the top of my list of ones to read.

I'm really enjoying the show, but the 40+ week wait in between seasons is pretty terrible.

I love the series, and it's part of the reason why I pay for HBO. A lot of people in our LS watch Game of Thrones, we all talk about it pretty regularly when the show is running. There's even been times where we are watching it at the same time, while leaving the game running in the background. "Omg did you see that!??"

I read somewhere it's the #1 most pirated TV show series lol.

The main plot points are basically the same, but it's really interesting how HBO is presenting the story. The books allow a lot more insight into the inner monologue of the characters, but the TV show has the freedom to show events that happened (or might of happened) "off-camera" in the books.

I think the main thing the show loses from the books is the subtlety of some of the characters, especially Littlefinger and Varys. The show presents them as much more direct than in the books.

It's one of those series where there's a lot of tinfoil hat theories running around which I seriously love. And that pretty much no character is safe from all the terrible things that happen. Haha.

And yes, you also see similar situations in a different light. I think the character that benefited the most from this was Robb Stark.

Love it, Ash read the books, or has read them so far and ruins all the shows for me, but I don't care.

Ha, yea. My girlfriend is on the third book and I'm not allowed to talk about ANYTHING EVER OR ELSE. She's taking forever to get caught up on them. It's nice to see her reactions to the holy shit moments though.

Also, on Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep (Borderlands 2 DLC.) there is a hilarious quest that is a parody of this book/show series.

I am obsessed with both.
